Āwheo hatched on the 22nd of January 2026 and is now 194 days old (4th August), average fledging age is 240 days. He was banded F71 on the 18th of July, stainless-steel banding will be done soon.

Āwheo was last weighed on the 22nd of July, he was10kg. The average weight for day 194 is 10.3kg so his weight is a little below average but not of concern (he had 6 feeds in the last week). The next weigh day will be the 18th of August. The average weights have levelled out and will start to drop in the next month as is normal prior to fledging.

Important note: Weighing was due today (4th August) but due to ongoing snow and hail to sea level the chicks will now be weighed on Thursday 6th of August. I will update this section then.

WYL’s GPS update: WYL has been in to feed Āwheo twice since last week, he has headed up to the Cook Strait area in the last couple of days. His GPS tag is no longer updating and may have moulted off as we expect them to do. He has been in since the last update from the Cook Strait area.



BOK’s GPS update: BOK has been back to feed Āwheo four times since last Tuesday. She has stayed off the Otago coast this last week. Her GPS unit has now been removed so we can reuse it on Āwheo.
