The fertile egg was laid on the 6th of November so is now 73 days old. Eggs are incubated for an average of 79 days before hatching. Hatching typically takes up to 5 days.
The egg was checked for the start of hatching this morning and already has an open hole of 1cm.
Eggs are hatched in the incubator to protect the vulnerable chick from fly strike. The nest has been sprayed with a bird safe insect repellent, and the chick will be returned to the nest as soon as possible after it has hatched.
WYL has been on the nest 4 days. Short changeovers are now likely due to the chick’s imminent arrival. The Plateau chick will be the 11th year of Royalcam live streaming.
Meanwhile, BOK’s GPS tracks shows that she travelled over 400 km in the last 4 days.
