November 1: adult were down on the river early, seen on Mangrove Island. One was seen with a fish –apparently a catfish -then one of the juveniles was seen eating there –a first definite sighting for us. Around 1pm one juvenile was on Mangrove Island and parents were aware. When Lady brought in a bird just after 1pm, juvenile was ready and squeeing - .and eventually got to eat it after some time de-feathering it- first by juvie then Lady. Then at 4:30, Lady brought in another bird Again it finally ate. Just one juvenile appears to be there on the island. But we believe both are doing well.

1. novembris: pieaugušie agri atradās upē, redzēti Mangrovju salā. Viens tika redzēts ar zivi – laikam sams –, tad viens no mazuļiem tur ēdam – mums pirmais konkrētais novērojums. Ap pulksten 13:00 viens nepilngadīgais atradās Mangrovu salā, un vecāki par to bija informēti. Kad lēdija ieveda putnu tūlīt pēc pulksten 13:00, mazulis bija gatavs un spiedza – un galu galā pēc kāda laika attīrīšanas to apēda – vispirms mazulis, pēc tam lēdija. Pēc tam pulksten 4:30 lēdija atveda citu putnu Atkal tas beidzot paēda. Šķiet, ka salā ir tikai viens nepilngadīgais. Bet mēs uzskatām, ka abiem klājas labi.

2.novembris

November 2: we have still not seen any of the eagles on the nest. Both parents were on Mangrove island at 6:50, then off chasing ravens. Just after 8am one juvenile joined Lady - with begging calls. Raining so all are wet. Juvie needs to move higher with the rising tide. At one stage it got quite wet, flapping through the roots to a higher branch – still a little clumsy. At 9:10 Dad brought in bird prey, but dropped it –and Lady was quick to get it. When she brought it back, the juvie tried to grab it, but it was dropped again . Dad got it this time and ate most himself, though maybe the juvie had a little. Later mid-afternoon both parents were on Mangrove Island, then were heard duetting from the bay – juvenile not seen. Raining again as well. 4:20 and eagles were at River Roost and one juvie visible again. When Lady caught a fish at 5:15, juvie didn’t go to the branch to eat it, but seemed to be feeding on the ground on the island. Juveniles were not seen together today.

2. novembris: joprojām nav redzēts nevies no ērgļiem ligzda. Abi vecāki pulksten 6:50 atradās Mangroves salā, pēc tam viņi vajāja kraukļus. Tieši pēc pulksten 8.00 lēdijai pievienojās viens nepilngadīgais ar ubagošanas zvaniem. Līst, tāpēc visi ir slapji. Jaunietim jāvirzās augstāk līdz ar paisumu. Vienā posmā diezgan slapjš, caur saknēm plīvojot uz augstāku zaru – vēl nedaudz neveikls. 9:10 tētis ienesa putnu laupījumu, bet to nometa, un lēdija ātri to paņēma. Kad viņa to atnesa, mazulis mēģināja to satvert, taču tas atkal tika nomests. Tētis šoreiz dabūja un lielāko daļu ēda pats, lai gan varbūt mazulim bija nedaudz. Vēlāk pēcpusdienā abi vecāki atradās Mangrovju salā, pēc tam dzirdēja duetu no līča – nepilngadīgais nav manīts. Atkal arī lietus. 16:20 ērgļi atradās River Roost un atkal bija redzama viens jaunietis. Kad lēdija noķēra zivi pulksten 17:15, jaunulis negāja pie zara, lai to ēstu, bet likās, ka barojas uz salas uz zemes. Nepilngadīgie šodien kopā nebija redzēti.

November 3: again, no eagles at the nest las night though Ringtail possums passed by just before 8pm - including 2 young ones. Eagles were seen down on River Roost early – with lots of Sunday morning river traffic- water skier, boats, ferries. Adults were seen on Mangrove Island then – and we felt that a juvenile was hidden there as well. Later we saw one juvenile perched on a mangrove on the island -so hard to spot with its brown colouring. One of the adults then flew into the mangroves west of River Roost – out of sight and an unusual place for it to fly. Was the other juvenile in there? Early afternoon, a hot day now, and only one adult seen on the island. Later in the afternoon, both parents and a juvenile were on Mangrove Island. One spent a long time preparing bird prey, then juvie was seen eating on the ground. No eagles still at the nest though there were Rainbow Lorikeet visitors in the late afternoon.

3. novembris: pagājušajā naktī ligzdā atkal nebija neviena ērgļa, lai gan īsi pirms pulksten 20.00 garām gāja ērgļi, tostarp 2 mazuļi. Ērgļi tika redzēti agri pie Roostas upes — ar lielu svētdienas rīta upes satiksmi — ūdensslēpotāju, laivām, prāmjiem. Mangrovju salā bija redzami pieaugušie – un mums šķita, ka arī tur ir paslēpts nepilngadīgais. Vēlāk mēs redzējām vienu mazuli uz salas mangrovju audzes - tik grūti pamanīt ar savu brūno krāsojumu. Pēc tam viens no pieaugušajiem ielidoja mangrovju audzēs uz rietumiem no River Roost — ārpus redzesloka un neparasta vieta, kur tai lidot. Vai tur bija otrs nepilngadīgais? Agra pēcpusdiena, tagad karsta diena, un uz salas redzēts tikai viens pieaugušais. Vēlāk pēcpusdienā abi vecāki un nepilngadīgais atradās Mangrovju salā. Viens pavadīja ilgu laiku, gatavojot putnu laupījumu, tad jaunilis tika redzēta ēdam uz zemes. Neviena ērgļa ligzdā joprojām nebija, lai gan vēlā pēcpusdienā bija Rainbow Lorikeet apmeklētāji.

November 4: early at 7am one adult was spotted at the river and a juvie flying out of shelter on the island, near the adult. Watcher felt that this juvie had been fed earlier as it was not heard begging. The other adult was seen up the river, flying low in the mangroves again – is there another juvenile in there? Both eagles were seen flying from place to place. We watched Lady for some time, roosting with wings out-stretched, very wet. Was she injured? She seemed to recover and moved to the island later. No prey was caught that we saw. There was a little rain and it is much cooler than yesterday. Later at 2:30 both parents were seen on the island and all seemed fine. After 5:30, both adults were on Mangrove Island and one seemed to have prey be eating – the juvenile was not seen.

4. novembris: agri pulksten 7.00 viens pieaugušais tika pamanīts pie upes un mazulis, kas izlidoja no patversmes uz salas, netālu no pieaugušā. Vērotājs juta, ka šis mazulis ir barots agrāk, jo tas nebija dzirdēts ubagojam. Otrs pieaugušais tika redzēts augšā upē, atkal zemu lidojam mangrovju audzēs — vai tur ir vēl kāds mazulis? Abi ērgļi bija redzēti lidojam no vietas uz vietu. Mēs kādu laiku vērojām lēdiju, kas ar izplestiem spārniem, ļoti slapja. Vai viņa bija ievainota? Šķita, ka viņa atguvās un vēlāk pārcēlās uz salu. Neviens laupījums, ko mēs redzējām, netika noķerts. Bija neliels lietus un ir daudz vēsāks nekā vakar. Vēlāk pulksten 14:30 abi vecāki tika redzēti uz salas, un viss šķita kārtībā. Pēc pulksten 17:30 abi pieaugušie atradās Mangrovu salā, un vienam šķita, ka ēd medījums – mazulis nebija manīts.

November 5: both parents were seen down on the river early morning and several more times One juvenile was seen on the island around 7:30 and it was quiet later, so may have been fed. There have still been no eagle visits back to the nest. I was watching from just before 1pm – both parents and one juvenile on the island. I saw the juvenile fly and change position and both parents took off. One returned with a fish at 13:10. It flew past the juvenile, ate some and spent some time ii seemed trying to encourage the young one to take the fish or come closer. Finally at 13:46 the juvenile stood beside the parent and was fed. It did not seem to try to grab the fish or feed itself. Just after 2pm the adults flew off and the young one may have been self-feeding for a while. I did not see it perch anywhere else on the river, though it did fly about at one stage. When I left before 3pm both adults were out of sight. Swoopers have not bothered them much on the island today. Later in the afternoon, one adult and juvenile could still be seen on the island.

5. novembris: abi vecāki tika redzēti lejā uz upes agrā rītā un vēl vairākas reizes. Viens mazulis uz salas redzēts ap pulksten 7:30 un vēlāk bija kluss, tāpēc, iespējams, pabarots. Joprojām nav bijis neviena ērgļa apmeklējuma atpakaļ ligzdā. Skatījos īsi pirms 13:00 – abi vecāki un viens nepilngadīgais uz salas. Es redzēju, kā nepilngadīgais lido un maina pozīciju, un abi vecāki pacēlās. Viens atgriezās ar zivi pulksten 13:10. Tas lidoja garām mazulim, apēda un kādu laiku pavadīja, ii šķita, ka mēģināja iedrošināt jauno paņemt zivi vai nākt tuvāk. Visbeidzot pulksten 13:46 nepilngadīgais nostājās blakus vecākam un tika paēdināts. Šķita, ka tas nemēģināja satvert zivis vai pabarot sevi. Īsi pēc pulksten 14.00 pieaugušie aizlidoja, un mazulis, iespējams, kādu laiku barojās pats. Es to neredzēju nekur citur upē, lai gan vienā posmā tas lidoja. Kad es devos prom pirms pulksten 15:00, abi pieaugušie nebija redzami. Swooperi viņiem šodien salā nav īpaši traucējuši. Vēlāk pēcpusdienā uz salas vēl varēja manīt vienu pieaugušo un nepilngadīgo.

November 6: for the first time for a while, Dad was seen by the nest last night – with 2 Ringtails passing, a Flying Fox visiting and a swooping owl. Lady was nearby early as well. Then a Black Duck and a flock of lorikeets. At 7:30 both adults were down on the island. Then one juvenile was spotted, moving to get closer to the parents. Shortly after it circled behind the island and out of sight. The parents were still there together. Later both parents were seen, one on the island and one at river roost around 2pm – on a hot day. Juvenile was seen again at 4:15 on the island. Dad brought in a fish and tried to draw the juvenile out –it finally came to the branch to get the fish, but appeared to fall and was on the ground. Then Lady flew in with a fish as well and juvie was seen eating the fish on the mudflats. It had finished feeding at 5:20.

6. novembris: pirmo reizi uz brīdi pie ligzdas vakar vakarā tika manīts tētis – un plīvojoša pūce. Arī kundze bija agri netālu. Tad Melnā pīle un loriņu bars. 7:30 abi pieaugušie atradās uz salas. Tad tika pamanīts viens nepilngadīgais, kurš pārvietojās, lai tuvotos vecākiem. Neilgi pēc tam tas riņķoja aiz salas un nebija redzams. Vecāki tur joprojām bija kopā. Vēlāk abi vecāki tika redzēti, viens uz salas un otrs pie upes ap 14:00 – karstā dienā. Nepilngadīgais atkal redzēts 16:15 uz salas. Tētis ienesa zivi un mēģināja izvilkt mazuli – tā beidzot pienāca pie zara, lai paņemtu zivi, bet šķita, ka nokrita un atradās uz zemes. Tad arī lēdija ielidoja ar zivi, un jaunulis tika redzēta ēdam zivis dubļu plakanos. Tas bija beidzis barošanu pulksten 17:20.

November 7: A flock of Rainbow Lorikeets visited the nest this morning, with a couple of Scaly-breasted lorikeets as well. Shortly after 7am, both parents were seen on Mangrove Island – neither juvenile spotted. At 8:15 adults wee seen on the island, one with a fish. A juvenile flew closer –adult eating and the juvie seemed to be eating a little as well. The other adult moved to River Roost. There was some light rain as well – then a hot day. At 12:14, one adult was on River roost, the other on the island, with no juvenile in view. Later at 3:40 one juvenile was seen on Mangrove Island with an adult – the other adult still on river roost, though it flew to the island soon after. No further reports at end of day.

7. novembris: šorīt ligzdu apmeklēja varavīksnes lorikeets(papagailīši) ganāmpulks, kā arī pāris zvīņaini papagailīši. Neilgi pēc pulksten 7:00 abi vecāki tika redzēti Mangrovu salā – neviens no nepilngadīgajiem netika pamanīts. 8:15 uz salas redzami pieaugušie, viens ar zivi. Nepilngadīgais pielidoja tuvāk – pieaugušais ēd, un šķita, ka arī nepilngadīgais ēd maz. Otrs pieaugušais pārcēlās uz River Roost. Bija arī neliels lietus – tad karsta diena. Pulksten 12:14 viens pieaugušais atradās River roost, otrs uz salas, neredzot nevienu nepilngadīgo. Vēlāk pulksten 15:40 viens mazulis tika manīts Mangrovu salā kopā ar pieaugušo – otrs pieaugušais joprojām atradās upē, lai gan drīz pēc tam aizlidoja uz salu. Dienas beigās vairāk ziņojumu nav.

November 8: no eagles on the nest last night. Early morning one eagle was on River roost just before 7am and the other on the island. Duet was heard later a couple of times. One juvenile was finally spotted on the island around 9am –so hard to see – close to areas where one has been fed. Another hot day and it was quite windy in the afternoon. 4:40 – one adult seen on the island, and presume one juvenile as well. No more reports from the river this evening. A quiet day. Photo is of Lady with her catch the other day.

8. novembris: pagājušajā naktī uz ligzdas nebija ērgļu. Agrā rītā viens ērglis atradās River roost īsi pirms 7:00, bet otrs uz salas. Vēlāk duets tika dzirdēts pāris reizes. Viens mazulis beidzot tika pamanīts uz salas ap pulksten 9:00 — tik grūti pamanāms — netālu no vietām, kur viens ir bijis barots. Kārtējā karsta diena un pēcpusdienā bija diezgan vējains. 16:40 – uz salas redzēts viens pieaugušais un, domājams, arī viens nepilngadīgais. Šovakar vairs nav ziņu no upes. Klusa diena. Fotoattēlā redzama lēdija ar savu lomu citā dienā.

November 9: no reports from the river in the morning. Just before 2pm, one juvenile was spotted on Mangrove Island. Shortly after both eagles flew over, circling overhead until out of sight. Just before 3pm one eagle returned to River Roost, though with no prey. 4pm, juvie is still there, with no adults about. Late afternoon, eagles retuned, again with no prey and the juvie was whining, moving about closer to the parents. Another quiet day with no apparent prey brought.

9. novembris: no rīta nav ziņu no upes. Īsi pirms pulksten 14:00 viens nepilngadīgais tika pamanīts Mangrovu salā. Neilgi pēc tam, kad abi ērgļi pārlidoja, riņķodami virs galvas, līdz tie vairs nebija redzami. Īsi pirms pulksten 15.00 viens ērglis atgriezās River Roost, lai gan bez laupījuma. 16:00, jaunulis joprojām ir tur, bez pieaugušajiem. Vēlā pēcpusdienā ērgļi atkal redzēti atkal bez laupījuma, un mazulis pīkstēja, virzoties tuvāk vecākiem. Vēl viena klusa diena bez redzama laupījuma.

November 10: early morning river watchers reported adults seen on the island and a juvenile heard calling from behind. Later adults we saw both adults soaring high together. One juvenile was seen briefly on the ground on the island. Lady was seen at midday, flying over the bay, then a failed prey attempt and back to the island. Then late afternoon at 4:30 parent bought in prey to the island and appeared to drop it on the ground. High tide, so there was water over the area. Lady appeared then with the prey, which was a gull– with Lady de-feathering it. A juvenile may have been eating at the back of the island, out of sight for our watchers. A fish was brought as well. Little yesterday and plenty this evening.

10. novembris: agrā rīta upes vērotāji ziņoja par pieaugušajiem, kas redzēti salā, un nepilngadīgais dzirdēja zvanu no aizmugures. Vēlāk pieaugušos mēs redzējām abus pieaugušos kopā planējam augstu. Viens nepilngadīgais uz īsu brīdi tika manīts uz zemes uz salas. Lēdija tika redzēta pusdienlaikā lidojam pāri līcim, pēc tam neveiksmīga medījuma mēģinājuma un atpakaļ uz salu. Tad vēlā pēcpusdienā pulksten 16:30 vecāks atnes laupījumu uz salu un, šķiet, nometa to zemē. Paisums, tāpēc apkārtnē bija ūdens. Pēc tam parādījās lēdija ar laupījumu, kas bija kaija – ar lēdiju, kas to atspalvoja. Iespējams, ka kāds nepilngadīgais ēda salas aizmugurē, kas nebija mūsu vērotāju redzeslokā. Atveda arī zivi. Maz vakar un daudz šovakar.

November 11: a cooler day. One watcher reported an eagle on the island around 7am, then saw a fish caught – moving between River Roost and the island. The parent appeared to eat the fish. Then I saw one adult on the island after 8am, and at one stage it circled back to River Roost and then to the island again. Later in the morning both adults were there on the river and duets heard. Again in the afternoon the adults were calling and moving between their favourite roosting places. Ravens were very active near the nest in the evening, calling loudly.

11. novembris: vēsāka diena. Kāds vērotājs ziņoja par ērgli salā ap pulksten 7:00, pēc tam ieraudzīja noķertu zivi, kas pārvietojās starp Roostas upi un salu. Šķita, ka vecāks ēd zivis. Tad es redzēju vienu pieaugušo uz salas pēc pulksten 8:00, un vienā posmā tas riņķoja atpakaļ uz River Roost un tad atkal uz salu. Vēlāk no rīta abi pieaugušie atradās uz upes un dzirdēja duetus. Atkal pēcpusdienā pieaugušie zvanīja un pārvietojās starp savām iecienītākajām riesta vietām. Pie ligzdas vakarā ļoti aktīvi darbojās kraukļi, kas skaļi sauca.

November 12: We are sad to report that our younger juvenile SE34 has been euthanased. She received loving care after being found far from home, (see the attached photo) but after further veterinary assessment her future was not deemed possible. Severe eye problems and lack of vision in one eye meant she was virtually blind and would probably be in pain. Life is hard for newly fledged raptors.
Unfortunately the other juvenile has also been found injured and is in care for further assessment. We are waiting for further information on SE33’s condition and future now and shall keep our followers informed.
Life is difficult for juvenile Sea-eagles, particularly in the city. But we shall keep watching and monitoring their progress in the future.

News from the Nest: November 12: Ringtail Possums visited again in the night and in the morning, noisy Rainbow Lorikeets visited and argued nearby. As you will have seen, there are no juveniles about on the river now. Early morning both adults were on the island, and later in the morning 2 eagles were reported near Goat Island closer to the city. Maybe our eagles? At around 3:30 one adult was seen landing on the island. It then moved between the island and River Roost – then finally up high and away. Early evening, one adult could still be seen at river roost. We shall keep watching and waiting for news of SE33.

Ziņas no Ligzdas: 12. novembris: Naktī un no rīta atkal viesojās gredzenaste Possums, netālu viesojās un strīdējās trokšņainie varavīksnes loriketi. Kā jūs jau būsiet redzējis, uz upes tagad nav mazuļu. Agrā rītā abi pieaugušie atradās uz salas, un vēlāk no rīta tika ziņots par 2 ērgļiem netālu no Kazu salas tuvāk pilsētai. Varbūt mūsu ērgļi? Ap pulksten 15:30 viens pieaugušais tika manīts nolaižamies uz salas. Pēc tam tas pārvietojās starp salu un Roostas upi – tad beidzot augšā un prom. Agrā vakarā pie upes riesta vēl bija manāms viens pieaugušais. Mēs turpināsim skatīties un gaidīt ziņas par SE33.
