November 6: Again all was quiet overnight. Ground crew was down by the river early – and reported both adults and what we think is SE32 in mangroves near River Roost. During the morning I actually spotted SE32 hidden away in the mangroves -superb camouflage and heard it calling. After I left, at around 1:20 SE32 was seen eating under the mangroves, with prey delivered by one of the parents, standing guard nearby. So one of the juveniles at least is with the parents and has been delivered prey, which is wonderful news. Later in the afternoon I again saw both adults in the mangroves in a similar spot, Lady eating a fish and then a juvie possibly eating as well, out of sight. We have possibly heard 2 juveniles calling from that area during the day as well. I went for a walk through the forest, though saw no eagles this time, nor currawongs warning of the presence of a juvenile.

6. novembris: pa nakti atkal viss bija kluss. Sauszemes apkalpe agri atradās pie upes un ziņoja gan par pieaugušajiem, gan par SE32, kas atrodas mangrovju audzēs netālu no Roostas upes. No rīta es tiešām pamanīju SE32, kas paslēpts mangrovju audzēs — lieliska maskēšanās, un dzirdēju to saucam. Pēc tam, kad es aizbraucu, ap pulksten 13:20 SE32 tika manīts ēdam zem mangrovju audzēm, un viens no vecākiem nogādāja upuri, kas stāvēja tuvumā. Tātad vismaz viens no nepilngadīgajiem ir kopā ar vecākiem un ir nogādāts medījums, kas ir brīnišķīgas ziņas. Vēlāk pēcpusdienā es atkal redzēju abus pieaugušos mangrovju audzēs līdzīgā vietā, lēdiju ēdam zivi un pēc tam, iespējams, ēdam arī mazuļus, kas nav redzami. Iespējams, arī dienas laikā esam dzirdējuši, ka no tās teritorijas zvana 2 nepilngadīgie. Es devos pastaigāties pa mežu, lai gan šoreiz neredzēju ne ērgļus, ne kurras, kas brīdinātu par nepilngadīgā klātbūtni.

Tuesday 7: early morning, during the last of this season’s annual Bird surveys, several of us saw both adults and we assume SE32 over on the mangroves across the river. After 10am, we also saw one adult fly across the Nature Reserve Wetlands and then back to the river. Later at around 3:15, the juvenile was seen eating on the ground under the mangroves, after one of the parents brought prey in. Wonderful to see it eating. We have not spotted the second juvenile today. The juvenile osprey from a few bays away is returning to eat near the nest high on a light tower in a playing field. It is interesting to compare the post-fledge behaviour of the 2 species.

Otrdiena, 7.: agrā rītā šīs sezonas pēdējās ikgadējās putnu apsekošanas laikā vairāki no mums redzēja gan pieaugušos, gan mēs pieņemam, ka SE32 atrodas mangrovju audzēs pāri upei. Pēc pulksten 10:00 mēs arī redzējām, kā viens pieaugušais lidoja pāri dabas rezervāta mitrājiem un pēc tam atpakaļ uz upi. Vēlāk ap pulksten 15:15 nepilngadīgais tika redzēts ēdam uz zemes zem mangrovju audzēm pēc tam, kad viens no vecākiem ienesa laupījumu. Brīnišķīgi redzēt to ēdam. Otro nepilngadīgo šodien neesam pamanījuši. Zivjērgļa mazulis no dažiem līčiem atgriežas ēst netālu no ligzdas, kas atrodas augstu uz gaismas torņa spēles laukumā. Interesanti ir salīdzināt abu sugu uzvedību pēc izlidosanas.

November 8: Our ground crew again report one juvenile still over the river in the mangroves-at times harassed by a cheeky raven. The adults were seen on river roost and over the river. Around 3pm both were seen soaring together overhead, a beautiful sight. We feel that the other juvenile is on the nest side of the river, as several squees have been heard, though the bird has not been seen. The picture shows an earlier shot of SE31 flying. Around 4:30, both parents were back at the river, though no prey delivery has been seen. No action at the nest this evening.

8. novembris: mūsu zemes apkalpe atkal ziņo par vienu mazuli, kas joprojām atrodas mangrovju audzēs pāri upei, un dažreiz viņam uzmācas nekaunīgs krauklis. Pieaugušie bija redzami upes nakšņošanas vietā un virs upes. Ap pulksten 15.00 abi tika redzēti kopā planējam virs galvas, un tas bija skaists skats. Jūtam, ka otrs mazulis atrodas upes ligzdas pusē, jo ir dzirdēti vairāki spiedzieni, lai gan putns nav redzēts. Attēlā redzams agrāks SE31 lidojuma kadrs. Ap pulksten 16:30 abi vecāki atgriezās pie upes, lai gan medījuma piegāde netika novērota. Šovakar ligzdā nekādas darbības.

November 9: at dusk last evening, both parents delivered prey to the juvenile down in the mangroves by the river – a fish and a bird. This morning early other neighbours were at the nest, Rainbow Lorikeets then a big flock of Sulphur-crested Cockatoos. Around 8:25, one adult was seen down on the mangroves, then joined by the other, with a duet. 12:21 parent delivered prey to their mangrove spot –and the juvenile appeared to be eating. The other parent was on river roost. So one of our juveniles at least is doing well. The photo shows the saltmarsh and wetlands of Main Lagoon, between the casuarina woodland and the river, with a band of mangrove trees in the background – which could be another place for our juveniles to shelter.

9. novembris: vakar vakarā krēslā abi vecāki mangrovju audzēs pie upes nogādājuši mazulim upuri – zivi un putnu. Šorīt agri pie ligzdas atradās citi kaimiņi, Rainbow Lorikeets, tad liels sērcekuļo kakadu bars. Ap pulksten 8:25 viens pieaugušais tika redzēts lejā uz mangrovju audzēm, pēc tam viņam pievienojās otrs ar duetu. 12:21 vecāks nogādāja laupījumu savā mangrovju vietā, un šķita, ka mazulis ēd. Otrs vecāks atradās upē. Tātad vismaz vienam no mūsu nepilngadīgajiem klājas labi. Fotoattēlā ir redzams Galvenās lagūnas sāls purvs un mitrāji, kas atrodas starp kazuarīnu mežu un upi ar mangrovju koku joslu fonā, kas varētu būt vēl viena vieta, kur patverties mūsu mazuļiem.

November 10: both adults were seen in the mangroves across the river this morning. Then around 1pm, we saw a juvenile fly strongly up from the mangroves and back to the place where it has been seen previously. Then it was joined at 1:15 by Lady, flying in with prey. We saw her plucking it and then a juvenile eating. Then they were joined by Dad, so all 3 were side by side on a branch. We could hear squeeing when the prey was first delivered, but feel only 1 bird was calling. Later in the day we were watching from the riverside again – but no sightings. If there is more action later I shall mention that tomorrow. Thrilling to see one juvenile eating there in safety on the river though.

10. novembris: abi pieaugušie šorīt tika redzēti mangrovju audzēs pāri upei. Pēc tam ap pulksten 13.00 mēs redzējām mazuli, kas spēcīgi uzlidoja no mangrovju audzēm un atpakaļ uz vietu, kur tas ir redzēts iepriekš. Pēc tam pulksten 13:15 tai pievienojās lēdija, ielidojot ar laupījumu. Mēs redzējām, kā viņa to plūca, un tad ēd nepilngadīgais. Tad viņiem pievienojās tētis, tāpēc visi 3 atradās blakus uz zara. Mēs varējām dzirdēt spiedzienus, kad laupījums pirmo reizi tika nogādāts, bet sajutām, ka sauc tikai 1 putns. Vēlāk dienas laikā atkal skatījāmies no upes krasta, taču nekādu novērojumu. Ja vēlāk būs vairāk darbību, es to pieminēšu rīt. Aizraujoši redzēt vienu nepilngadīgo ēdot tur drošībā uz upes.

Šodien Austrālijā ir atceres diena, un 11. mēneša 11. dienas 11. stundā mēs uz minūti apstājamies un pārdomājam klusumā... Lai mēs neaizmirstam...

November 11: Prey delivery last evening at 6:30 to Mangrove Island, not sure if juvenile was about. This morning at 7:45 adult, think Dad, was on mangroves where seen yesterday. Hard to see if juvenile is there in the shadows. Lots of river traffic, with scullers going close and loud microphones, yelling training orders. Rivercats passing, dozens of watercraft- Dad ignores them it seems. 8:01, heard juvenile squawk and currawong- close to adult. Lots of rubbish under the mangroves, another threat. Hearing a Koel, is it yelling at the juvenile as well? Pied Oystercatcher flying past. Striated Heron, Great Egret with breeding plumage, Mangrove Gerygone behind me. Later around midday ground team reported adults on Mangrove Island and circling over the area, but no juvenile or feeding seen. Shall add any more observations tomorrow.

11. novembris: laupījumu piegāde pagājušajā vakarā pulksten 18:30 uz Mangrove salu, nezinot, vai nepilngadīgais ir apmēram. Šorīt pulksten 7:45 pieaugušais, domājams,ka, tētis, atradās mangrovju audzēs, kur tas tika redzēts vakar. Grūti saskatīt, vai ēnā atrodas nepilngadīgais. Liela upes satiksme, scullers iet tuvu un skaļi mikrofoni, kas kliedz apmācību pavēles. Garām iet upes kaķi, desmitiem peldlīdzekļu- šķiet, ka tētis tos ignorē. 8:01, dzirdēja nepilngadīgo čīkstēšanu un currawong- tuvu pieaugušajam. Zem mangrovju audzēm daudz atkritumu, vēl viens drauds. Vai dzirdot Koelu, tā arī kliedz uz nepilngadīgo? Austeres ķērpis lido garām. Svītrais gārnis, lielais gārnis ar vaislas apspalvojumu, mangrove Gerygone aiz manis. Vēlāk ap pusdienlaiku zemes komanda ziņoja par pieaugušajiem Mangrovu salā, kas riņķoja pa apkārtni, taču netika novērots neviens mazulis vai barošanās. Rīt pievienošu vēl kādus novērojumus.

November 12: Both parents and juvenile were sighted 9.45 this morning in same area roughly opposite the weir. Ground crew assumed food was brought in to ground, with lots of squeeing. The juvenile flew down to ground where the parent went, then all was quiet. Observer was unable to see where they landed or what the prey was. Later during the day there were no more sightings reported. The picture shows an adult in the mangroves across the river, which is quite wide there. The shadows under the mangroves make it very hard to see a juvenile or confirm which it is. Then around 5:30pm a parent and juvenile were seen there again, before the young one flew back into the mangroves.

12. novembris: abi vecāki un nepilngadīgais tika pamanīti šorīt pulksten 9.45 tajā pašā rajonā, kas atrodas aptuveni pretī aizsprostam. Sauszemes apkalpe uzskatīja, ka ēdiens tika ievests zemē ar lielu spiešanu. Nepilngadīgais nolidoja uz zemes, kur devās vecāks, tad viss bija kluss. Novērotājs nevarēja redzēt, kur viņi nolaidās vai kāds bija medījums. Vēlāk dienas laikā par novērojumiem vairs netika ziņots. Attēlā redzams pieaugušais mangrovēs pāri upei, kas tur ir diezgan plats. Ēnas zem mangrovju audzēm apgrūtina mazuļa saskatīšanu vai apstiprināšanu, kurš tas ir. Pēc tam ap pulksten 17:30 tur atkal tika manīts vecāks un nepilngadīgais, pirms mazulis aizlidoja atpakaļ mangrovju audzēs.

November 13: Early morning I saw one of the adults down in the mangroves, then the other as well. One soared so high overhead I could no longer see it The adults were hard to spot on the river, not always in their familiar roosts and seemed to be moving further into the mangroves. Later at last we saw one of the juveniles on a branch in the mangroves – so hard to spot in the shadows, with its brown colouring (see the picture). It stayed still there for over 2 hours while we were watching, with not a sound. One of the adults was moving in and out , but we saw no prey delivered. Again the mullet are jumping. We saw the male Osprey over the Nature Reserve wetlands, flushing out about a dozen lapwings. No more news during the afternoon. As there is an “empty nest” now, or mostly, we rely on ground observers to report any action on the river.

13. novembris: Agrā rītā es redzēju vienu no pieaugušajiem mangrovju audzēs, pēc tam arī otru. Viens pacēlās tik augstu virs galvas, ka es to vairs neredzēju. Pieaugušos cilvēkus upē bija grūti pamanīt, viņi ne vienmēr atradās savās pazīstamajās nakšņošanas vietās, un šķita, ka viņi virzās tālāk uz mangrovju audzēm. Vēlāk beidzot ieraudzījām vienu no mazuļiem mangrovju zarā – tik grūti pamanāmu ēnā, ar savu brūno krāsojumu (skat. attēlu). Tas palika nekustīgs vairāk nekā 2 stundas, kamēr mēs skatījāmies, bez skaņas. Viens no pieaugušajiem pārvietojās iekšā un ārā, bet mēs neredzējām, ka medījums nav nogādāts. Mēs redzējām zivjērgļa tēviņu virs dabas rezervāta mitrājiem, izskalojot apmēram duci spārnu. Pēcpusdienā vairs nekādu ziņu. Tā kā pašlaik vai pārsvarā ir “tukša ligzda”, mēs paļaujamies uz zemes novērotājiem, kuri ziņos par jebkuru darbību upē.

November 14: both Brushtail and Ringtail possums visited last night. Early morning, from our camera one adult could be seen down on the river. Shortly after 7am, ground crew spotted both adults and a juvenile, on the same branch it was yesterday. Adults and juvenile were seen again later, though no prey delivery was seen. The juvenile has not been seen flying out in the open either. Afternoon – no further ground reports so no further news today. Here is a picture of a kookaburra, often head near the nest and another cavity nester.

14. novembris: pagājušajā naktī viesojās gan Brushtail, gan Ringtail possums. Agrā rītā no mūsu kameras upē varēja redzēt vienu pieaugušo. Neilgi pēc pulksten 7:00 zemes apkalpe pamanīja gan pieaugušos, gan nepilngadīgo, uz tā paša zara tas bija vakar. Pieaugušie un nepilngadīgais atkal tika redzēti vēlāk, lai gan medījuma piegāde netika novērota. Arī nepilngadīgais nav redzēts izlidojam atklātā laukā. Pēcpusdiena — nav citu ziņojumu, tāpēc šodien nekādu ziņu nav. Šeit ir attēls ar kookaburru, kas bieži atrodas netālu no ligzdas un cita dobuma ligzdas.

November 15: at 9:30 one juvenile was seen down on the mangroves, eating a fish, with the parents nearby. At 10:15 one parent caught another small fish right in front of our watcher, ate some and delivered the rest to the juvenile as well. One parent moved beside the juvenile which began squeeing then returned to eating. We have no seen any sign of the second juvenile. Later in the afternoon, the eagles were heard duetting from the river and were seen on Mangrove Island at 2:30. One then was seen circling over the river and the nearby wetlands. Several ravens were heard calling near the nest at around 2pm – often ravens gather and call like this when one of their kind is injured, though we could find no reason.


15. novembris: pulksten 9:30 viens mazulis mangrovju audzēs ēda zivi kopā ar vecākiem. 10:15 viens vecāks mūsu vērotāja acu priekšā noķēra vēl vienu zivtiņu, daļu apēda un pārējo arī nogādāja mazulim. Viens no vecākiem pārcēlās blakus nepilngadīgajam, kurš sāka spiedzīties un pēc tam atgriezās ēst. Mēs neesam redzējuši nekādas pazīmes par otro nepilngadīgo. Vēlāk pēcpusdienā ērgļi tika dzirdēti duetā no upes un tika redzēti Mangrove salā pulksten 14:30. Pēc tam viens tika manīts riņķojam pāri upei un tuvējiem mitrājiem. Ap plkst.14 pie ligzdas bija dzirdēti saucam vairāki kraukļi – nereti kraukļi pulcējas un šādi sauc, kad kāds no viņu sugām ir ievainots, lai gan mēs nevarējām atrast iemeslu.

November 16: Late observations from yesterday – around 6:30 a juvenile and adult were spotted on the mangroves and the juvenile appeared to be eating. Earlier, from deeper in the mangroves the ground team thought there may have been the other juvenile. At 7pm the first juvenile and an adult were sitting in the usual spot on the river mangroves. This morning around 7am Dad and a juvenile were on a low mangrove branch and a fox was seen roaming around under the mangroves. Later when Lady flew off, the visible juvenile moved into the shadows. Ground team today has not heard any other juvenile calls before midafternoon. Our team are only able to spend a few hours watching from the riverside each day and the view across the river is limited with shadows and distance. It is wonderful though to see at least one juvenile there with the parents and being fed.

16. novembris: Vēli novērojumi no vakardienas – ap pulksten 18:30 uz mangrovju audzēm tika pamanīts mazulis un pieaugušais, un šķita, ka mazulis ēd. Agrāk, no dziļāk mangrovju audzēm, zemes komanda domāja, ka tur varētu būt otrs mazulis. 19:00 pirmais mazulis un pieaugušais sēdēja parastajā vietā pie mangrovju audzēm. Šorīt ap pulksten 7:00 tētis un mazulis atradās uz zema mangrovju zara, un zem mangrovju audzēm tika manīta lapsa. Vēlāk, kad lēdija aizlidoja, redzamais nepilngadīgais pārcēlās ēnā. Sauszemes komanda šodien nav dzirdējusi citus nepilngadīgo zvanus pirms pēcpusdienas. Mūsu komanda katru dienu var pavadīt tikai dažas stundas, vērojot no upes krasta, un skatu pāri upei ierobežo ēnas un attālums. Ir taču brīnišķīgi redzēt vismaz vienu nepilngadīgo tur kopā ar vecākiem un tiek pabarots.

vēl no vakardienas – 15:30 atnests laupījums. Tad vēlāk pulksten 17:45 lēdija atnesa lielu zuti, apēda sevi Mangrovju salā, pēc tam atgriezās pie mazuļa.

November 17: an early report of a juvenile in the usual spot in the mangroves, then seen flying to Rive roost, near both parents. In the afternoon there was a large drone flying over the wetlands –a new method of mosquito spraying, rather than by helicopter. Parents were away during the day – maybe even at Goat Island, closer to the City. Both returned to River Roost before 5pm, and then to the juvenile’s usual area. Shortly after both parents were at River Roost, with a vocal greeting. Juvenile was seen at the water edge around 6pm, then went deeper into the mangroves. At 6:45, an adult was seen flying from the wetlands with a fish, taken to Mangrove Island. It is unclear if a juvenile ate today. P icture shows juvenile flying yesterday


17. novembris: agrs ziņojums par mazuli ierastajā vietā mangrovju audzēs, pēc tam redzēts lidojam uz Rive roost, netālu no abiem vecākiem. Pēcpusdienā virs mitrājiem lidoja liels drons – jauna odu izsmidzināšanas metode, nevis ar helikopteru. Vecāki pa dienu bija prom – varbūt pat Kazu salā, tuvāk pilsētai. Abi atgriezās River Roost pirms pulksten 17:00 un pēc tam nepilngadīgajam ierastajā zonā. Neilgi pēc tam, kad abi vecāki bija River Roost ar balss sveicienu. Nepilngadīgais tika manīts ūdens malā ap pulksten 18:00, pēc tam iegāja dziļāk mangrovju audzēs. 18:45 tika manīts pieaugušais lidojam no mitrājiem ar zivi, kas nogādāts Mangrovju salā. Nav skaidrs, vai nepilngadīgais šodien ēda. Attēlā redzams, kā vakar lidoja nepilngadīgie.

November18: Early the juvenile was down in the usual mangrove area, with Lady keeping watch above. Saturday morning the river is noisy with rowers training, much shouting and noise until 9am. Pleasing to see the juvenile fly a short way. At 12:30 the juvenile was on a mangrove branch in the shade and both adults on River Roost, no swooping or calls. 1:10 both adults took flight from River Roost and were away for some time. 1:20 juvie flew back again, then moved again a few metres and again, so hard to see. Later we were thrilled to see her make a couple of passes over the water, with talons reaching out- practising hunting? (see picture - ).The wind was very strong, hard for a young eagle. Then she was back again to the favourite patch. Not sure if a late feed was delivered.


18. novembris: agri mazulis atradās parastajā mangrovju apgabalā, un lēdija uzrauga augšā. Sestdienas rītā upe ir trokšņaina ar airētāju treniņiem, daudz kliegšanas un trokšņa līdz 9:00. Prieks redzēt, kā mazulis lido īsu ceļu. 12:30 nepilngadīgais atradās uz mangrovju zara ēnā un abi pieaugušie atradās River Roost, bez swooping vai zvaniem. 13:10 abi pieaugušie pacēlās no River Roost un kādu laiku bija prom. 13:20 juvie atkal lidoja atpakaļ, tad atkal pavirzījās dažus metrus un atkal, tik grūti redzēt. Vēlāk mēs bijām sajūsmā, redzot, kā viņa veica pāris piegājienus pāri ūdenim ar nagiem, kas sniedzās pāri – praktizējot medības? (skatīt attēlu - ).Vējš bija ļoti stiprs, jaunajam ērglim smags. Tad viņa atkal atgriezās pie iecienītākā ielāpa. Neesat pārliecināts, vai tika piegādāta novēlota plūsma.
