Good morning, eagle family!
Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Southwestern California and will remain in effect until Tuesday Morning.
What to expect: Strong westerly winds gusting as high as 40 mph, 1-2” of rain with a changeover to snow in the afternoon.
During inclement weather Jackie will spread her wings to cover and protect her chick. Her brood patch will aid in heat transfer. This shielding behavior is often called Mombrella (or Dadbrella when Shadow does the same). The chick will instinctively seek warmth and protection from the parents and will be moving underneath them.
The storm expected today is different from the events in 2018 & 2019. This season Jackie only has one chick to shelter, and this chick is considerably smaller (25 days vs. 40+) and easier to keep fully covered.
During this weather event, we will not be approving posts that will cause negative comments, unnecessary panic or speculations. Please remember that if these times make you too nervous it is ok to turn off the livestream.
