Shadow has been busy the past couple of days. It gives us an idea of the scope of his wonderful abilities. We will not know where the sub-adult was from on Sunday, but I am always very curious. As we know Stormy will be a sub adult now, and I know of one that I am almost certain visits the natal area in SWFL from time to time. Forgive my rambling.
Shadow has a lot to do in addition to his Uber eats delivery service to Jackie at times that she is incubating. He will be the main provider to the eaglets once they are here for about the first 2/3 weeks, after which time Jackie will also bring food to the nest. In addition, the nest defense and protection is a 24/7 job. He protects it during the day as we clearly see from our lens of Cam #2 on Saturday and Sunday, and at night by being close to the nest tree while Jackie does the night shift of incubation. Bald Eagles(BAEA) and Golden Eagles(GOEA) are very powerful at territory protection, with the latter often the most fierce. Red tail hawks (RTHA) and falcons (PEFA) are great in mid air combat , with the latter able to fly at up to 200mph. Ravens are a problem for hawks and falcons, but as a great post from Admin indicated, while Jackie and Shadow stay in their position they are well able to finish the purpose that they have so diligently begun.
I must get back to Shadow’s Sunday. Shadow was on egg duty for 2 hr 36 min (3 shifts)! One fish delivered for Jackie; Jackie ignored Shadow’s requests to incubate 4 time(s)
Just put this into perspective and see how Shadow has become the Super Dad in waiting during these previous two seasons. 3 shifts of incubation, 4 shifts of incubation requests ignored, and has the focus to get in his Uber eats vehicle to deliver Jackie a fish dinner at 16:25 before she takes the night shift of incubation.
Since 2018 I have watched and observed Shadow. From young subadult to Night Warrior. From first time dad of Simba, and a short while beloved Cookie. From the 60 plus days of grueling incubation in 2020 upon eggs that did not produce what he so badly awaited. From a first clutch of eggs in January 2021 that synchronicity was somehow lacking, after which the first was picked up by Mr raven, to a third being laid some days later that appeared to crack. To a second clutch laid in February 2021, one going to PIP stage but not fully hatching. To Shadow doing six night shifts right up to 51 days of incubation on Egg #2. To Shadow then leaving one morning, and returning and seeing that the egg that was so precious to him, that he’d risk himself by flying into the nest at past midnight on some of those six occasions to incubate, being gone, after it too was taken by a raven. He was visibly shaken. But look at him today. He is unstoppable, unrelenting, invincible, indomitable, persevering, prepared, focused , with increased capacity, positioned and more determined to be a dad than at any time before. He is Super Dad.
So many things for us to draw from. An ATM of inspiration that when we take hold just gives us every reason to look at a circumstance and defy it with our response . It is never the circumstance that defines our future potential, it’s our response to them that refines us for our future potential, as it will always be right ahead. So the message today is move ahead, just like Shadow, move ahead. I feel the spirit of Move Ahead Eagle Family.

May Jackie and Shadow’s work be blessed and protected, and Egg #1 and Egg #2 go on to PIP, hatch, learn , Explore and fledge go on and thrive. Let there be the next generation of Super Dad.
