​It is not uncommon to see blood on eagles beaks, talons and tail feather (due to the way they carry prey). It does not look like Jackie's blood, it does not appear to come from her body.

​The smudges are concentrated on feather vanes, not on feather shafts or tail coverts ("pantaloons"). We will monitor the situation and post updates here as we learn more.

Nereti var redzēt asinis uz ērgļu knābjiem, nagiem un astes spalvām (medījumu nešanas veida dēļ). Tās neizskatās pēc Džekijas asinīm, nešķiet, ka tās nāk no viņas ķermeņa.

Netīrumi ir koncentrēti uz spalvu ārējām daļām, nevis uz spalvu stiebriem vai astes segspalvām ("biksēm"). Mēs uzraudzīsim situāciju un publicēsim šeit jaunumus, kad uzzināsim vairāk.

It had been another wonderful day of Nature’s performance. It had started with a peek into a winter wonderland of postcard beauty. The nest had a fresh sprinkling of snow, and looked dazzling.
There was the sound of a hawk at dawn, likely announcing the BAEA flyby at 06:31. The day went by without any visits from either of our Dynamic Duo, and it was getting to the time of high probability of an eagle or two landing.
At precisely 16:31 Jackie landed with a Perfect Ten. There was the sound of a snapping branch on Cam #2 as she landed with stick #1. This was the 13th dusk visit in the past 15 days. She went to work intently placing sticks in variuos positions. There were some placed to act as rails for extra security for the eaglets when they are moving around the nest. All the while she was glancing around as if to see Shadow. With a vision in excess of 2 miles she might have seen him at sushi Happy Hour.
After about 7 minutes she left, only to arrive almost right back with stick #2. This time Shadow was hot on her tail. He doesn’t like to fall too far behind with decorating either you know. As Mr Stickman, he got right to work, also building the crib rails. They pushed, bumped and jostled for a few minutes, exchanging feather nips and glances. A determined energy was evident, but all the while with a power, peace and purpose that pulls us in to learn and find out more about this transcendent wonder of these magical avians.
Jackie flew off, while Shadow continued to place and rearrange various nest furniture. After about 3 minutes she flew right back in with stick #3. This time Shadow wanted out, we know why, to get his special spot on the inside limb of the RT. He flew out, with Jackie remaining for a couple of minutes, before she too made her way to the RT. The day closed with a magical duet between the two at 17:04.
Both Jackie and Shadow have very different personalities, the former more serious , the latter more playful. It makes for an endearing synergy of fun in preparation of their eaglet crib. They put a smile on so many faces with their antics, and quirks. Everything that has happened is for everything that is yet to come. Jackie and Shadow will be right on time for all of it, as they are more prepared, more bonded, more determined, and with a greater capacity than at anytime before.
Jackie wanted me to let you know that her tail feathers are just fine. It is quite usual for raptors to have blood on occasion after hunting prey. It’s just when the plumage is white it shows up more.
