...The egg was candled today and looks good. We are expecting it to hatch around the 24th January.
Visā kolonijā ir bijis daudz ligzdu atjaunošanas darbu ,jo līst spēcīgs lietus.Sharyn Broni (Ranger, DOC)
There has been a lot of nest building all around the colony with the recent heavy rain.
Here is LGK this morning, the bare patches beside the nest are from the recent nest building.
It is very similar over at Quarry with LKL.
The 3 oldest eggs are now at 61 days of age, so there is only around 2.5 weeks till hatching for those ones. The Royalcam egg is slightly younger at 58 days of age today.

This little chick has ticks, the adults would keep attacking it till it dies to prevent ticks going through the whole colony.

Update regarding the red-billed gull chick that went to the Dunedin Wildlife Hospital on Sunday. It whad sustained superficial injuries only and is on the mend. It will be released back at Taiaroa Head once it can fend for itself. It cannot be returned to the nest as we do not know which one it was from only the general area.

The red-billed gull chick prior going to hospital and post veing ckeaned up a bit. Non-parent adults will go for any open bleeding area. Ticks once grown are quite large and visible, here they gave been pecked off. It is a case of sacrificing the one for the good of the many.
Many thanks to the Dunedin Wildlife Hospital for taking care of it.
