Hello everyone
Banding of all 24 chicks occurred today. There was no weighing due to the wind which was up around 40 knots.
All chicks have a permanent Stainless Steel band on the right leg and a green plastic band with a 2 digit number on the left leg. The Royalcam chicks number is 50.
Glue is used to make the plastic band stronger.
When these young birds come back in 5 or so years time the green bands will be replace with a 2 or 3 colour combination.
Banding tells us who each bird is, how old they are, who they breed with etc.
Labvakar, Raganiete! Raganiete wrote: ↑26 Aug 2020 22:29 27.augusts
Labvakar!
Pēc ilgāka laika atkal esmu tikusi forumā(liels paldies par to I.Priedniecei un Vērotājai).
Viss notika ļoti dīvaini, vienā dienā parole vairs nedarbojas un viss, nomainīt neko nevar, bet tagad radusies iespēja tomēr pabeigt albatrosu tēmu![]()
Varbūt tas nav svarīgi,bet man gribētos iesākto pabeigt.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for watching.
The name announcement will occur right here, on cam, at 10am on Tuesday 1st September.
Right now the Royalcam chick is beyond the long grass to the north.
One thing we do not always get to see in the long grass is how the toes close when they walk.
This pic is of another chick with her parent WO, the oldest bird in the colony showing us how it is done.
