19th October - latest news and speculation
The fledgling that Rohan saw flying around on Wednesday was very likely SE24, not SE23.
We "think" SE23 is still in the trees around our third camera - referred to as IR, short for Ironbark tree. That is where Judy and Cathy saw him on Thursday morning.
This morning a local very familiar with the SE's nest and local hangouts, said this:
"Both parents were were doing short bouts of flying near the RR and mangrove island, like they were protecting the area - behaviour I have not seen there before. About 11 when I passed by again, there were sounds like the eaglets make calling for food. The parents were also more vocal than usual honking at other birds flying near the RR."
From that we can surmise that at least one has probably crossed the river - likely SE24 because he has been seen flying well. SE23 probably needs more practice. The person who reported the Mangrove Is. activity would not have been carrying camera or binoculars.
If one or both are out and about someone will get pics.

Very appreciative to jenwren for letting us know about a juvenile at the river roost yesterday.
Both parents were at RR with SE24 today. Several meals were delivered, which SE24 ate off the ground, then on a branch - mostly out of the view of keen watchers on the opposite side of the river.
I have included photos & wobbly videos of some of today's events. Please excuse the hand shake; and also the surrounding 'people' noises.
I also thought you might be interested in seeing what it is like for an unpopular apex predator to hunt - poor dad.
Parents & SE24 looked settled for the evening when I left at 7:30pm.

I have just seen SE23 in the casuarina forest, beside the wetlands between the forest and the river, He was on the ground as it is quite dense. I urged him or tried, towards the open area, but at least up off the ground. So close I could almost have touched him.

He looks good! I'm sure parents are supplying him with food. We saw him flying strongly near the nest yesterday and heard him in the distance this morning. Now he has moved further away from the nest and microphone we most likely won't hear him unless he flies back. As SE24 is already flying with Lady and Dad at River Roost it's more likely that SE23 will remain in the Salt marsh area.
HD video, 20th October, 2019 SE23 flighing high in the forest, Sunday afternoon - for those concerned that he spends all his time on the ground. Yes we are sure it's SE23, SE24 was at the river.

Since 24 was at the river, this would be 23.

It is important that we do not disturb the young eagles, newly fledged and inexperienced. I walked in the forest this morning, and finding a young eagle is like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. However I came across SE23 moving along the old railway track. Coming to the gate, he was unable to take off as it is quite an enclosed space. I managed to get past him and open the gate wide. it took him at least 30 minutes to come out. He flew to a nearby tree, where he landed clumsily, but then took off again, escorted by a currawong. He flew strongly back into the forest. Now we leave him alone as he appears to be flying strongly and is safe. Great news. My photos are not very clear as I left my camera at home. I shall post more woodland shots later.
