12:36 3/4 Jeremy did a health check a few minutes ago and it turns out that this is the male incubating the egg now. (Don't know when they switched on us.)
12:35 3/4 The egg was examined briefly this morning and it is not showing any signs of hatching. We'll just have to continue to wait and see what happens.

11:19 Health check this morning at the Cahow burrows. The male is still in the first burrow (#831). He has lost a lot of weight since last check & is down to 312g. According to Jeremy the egg in that burrow has failed. We'll have to wait & see what happens next.
Here's the 2 day old chick from the second cam burrow (#832) being put back in the burrow after its health check this morning. The chick looked very healthy and weighed 59g showing that it had been getting fed.

And now she's back!
Despite 6 months apart at sea and most likely battling hurricane Lorenzo near the Azores, our star pair are so much in sync that they returned within 48 hours of each other to commence their November courtship activities...

Big news from Nonsuch Island! The female "Cahow" (Bermuda Petrel) returned to the nest burrow around 2:05 AM on January 10th, and barely an hour later settled in to lay her single egg.
The male was waiting for her when she arrived and the pair spent an hour preening and making adjustments to the nest prior to the egg's arrival.
The adults will take turns incubating for the next 53-55 days till the egg hatches in late Febraury/early March. If all goes well, we'll all be watching a small puff of dark-gray down grow into a much larger and sleeker individual before fledging sometime in late May or early June.
