Was wondering what has happened to Amiria. She hasn't been anywhere near her nest and Wo has been walking up and down.
Cheryl Hardy
Hi Glennis, it sounded like WO fed Amiria behind the camera at 1.30pm and WO is waiting for the wind to come up before she departs. I have hear Amiria wheeling other times WO has walked past the camera today too, so not to worry.
Glennis Clark
Cheryl Hardy thank you for that, she's not staying at her nest much but you usually see her chasing her parents for food back to the nest. I'm guessing it won't be long before she fledges.
The Royal Albatross Centre
She is going wandering- which she’s always been good at! She’ll probably fledge next month- won’t we miss her!!
Glennis Clark
The Royal Albatross Centre sure will miss her. Getting a bit use to her not being there now. Very hard to catch her at her nest
Anne Charlesworth
She is training us so we won't miss her!

Update on Amīria
7th September 2018
Amīria has Fledged!!! Day 229
Amīria will now have to get used to life on the water. It is likely she will spend several weeks learning to feed herself before taking off on the 9000km journey to the rich waters of the Humboldt Current on the other side of the Pacific Ocean.
She has been one adventurous foster chick from the moment she could leave the nest. It is hoped that the Te Reo (Maori language) take on aviator Amelia Earhart's namesake will see her back at Taiaroa Head after spending 4-10 years flying around the Southern Ocean.
We did not see Amīria go but extensive searching has revealed that she has left the headland, we know she was determined. The wind at Taiaroa Head has been a steady 30k from the north for over 24 hours we do not expect that she will have landed in the harbour in these conditions.
She was the first to fledge this season, the others will not be long behind her. Rocky may be here for a couple of weeks.
