P.S. Pārdomas par vārdu došanu atradu LK forumā, mūsu kaimiņi krietni pastrādājuši, lai zivjērgļu pāri,
kas jau arvien labāk iedzīvojas jaunajā ligzdā, būtu ērtāk nosaukt

We should respect that it is a nest in Latvia and so Latvian members here, or members in Latvian forum, should name the birds - like it happened last season with Ulla/Uldis chicks, LSEs Mētra and Mačo and their chick(s) and this year with WtEs Lubana and Sartas. It looks like things are on a good and promising way here on the nest and we should be able to deal with "provisional" names for a bit more time.
I'm not from Latvia myself, but found this list of Latvian names: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix: ... iven_names
Personally I find the names Perkons (for the male), and Lauma (for the female) very appealing, as both refer to ancient Latvian dieties connected with the sky, and in the case of Lauma also with lakes - which would suit an osprey.
But yes, I agree that Latvian forummembers should pick the names.

It would be nice to have names that are easy for international watchers on the Forum to use.
- Ulla and Uldis' last year chicks were mostly named in English on the Forum in stead of the given Latvian names, as the Latvian names were difficult to write and difficult to pronounce, I believe.
 Yes, it was absolutely difficult for a time - but it was very kind of Latvian members to help us with the English translations/meanings of the names. I think it was an absolute acceptable solution - and that these "handicaps" are known now for future

Yay, that's good news. So our Osprey couple is "officialy" named Perkons (male) and Lauma (female)
Just some background information on the names:
Perkons
Quote:
the common Baltic god of thunder, one of the most important deities in the Baltic pantheon. In both Lithuanian and Latvian mythology, he is documented as the god of thunder, rain, mountains, oak trees and the sky.
Other myths say that Perkūnas and one Laumė or Vaiva (rainbow) were supposed to get married on Thursday, but the bride was kidnapped by Velnias (the devil) and Perkūnas has hunted Velnias ever since.

Lauma
Quote:
Latvian: Lauma, Lithuanian: Laumė is a woodland fae, and guardian spirit of orphans in Eastern Baltic mythology. Originally a sky spirit, her compassion for human suffering brought her to earth to share our fate.
Laumės descended from sky to Earth. They lived near by lakes, abandoned bath-houses, in islands of lakes or dense forests.
In Latvian mythology Lauma is an assistant at birth, assuring the health and welfare of both mother and child. If the mother does not survive, or gives the child up, she takes on the role of spiritual foster mother for the child. She spins the cloth of life for the child, but weeps at the fate of some.
