November 15
Hello again fans. Another update of the Taiaroa Head Albatross Colony for you.
141 return birds for the season so far
28 viable eggs (out of 30 laid)
2 of those 28 eggs are currently in the incubator with the potential to foster out to good parents later on.
7 eggs were 'candled' to see if they were fertile this week - 5 of the seven are confirmed fertile at this stage (the other two eggs are determined too early to tell yet).
Great viewing at the moment even on the windless days with our tours - today saw at least six birds on the ground in view from our observatory and birds in the air on every tour!
In November we hope for some more nests and then December will see our 'teenage' birds around - some of whom it will be their first time touching land again in 5 years!
