The adult storks do not learn juveniles to forage, they only bring food to the nest (occasionally outside it). After leaving the nest juveniles need to manage themselves. It could happen rapidly, no returns to the nest or smoothly during up to two weeks. There would be good to look previous years, but remember that one parent (female?) quite often disappeared before chicks started to fly. Maybe I remember it from trail cams at different nests? Can't look at the moment.
Once in previous years we brought fish in to special artificial water body near nest, but in current place there is no such open place where they can find additional food. We don't know about previous years, it may be that kind of behavior in current pair breeding like we see now. But two days absence of Karl is probably caused by trapping him. That we tried to compensate a bit, but no more such possibility, chicks fledged and in darkness can get injured, also in light time if fly out not voluntarily and can get lost orientation. They need to practice flying and find some food themselves. There are many streams in vicinity.
