Laikam mazuļa barošana notiek ne tik bieži...

Izrādās, vecāks var pabarot mazuli 5 minūtēs, tam apēdot 1/3 no sava svara , un tad atstāt to uz dažām nedēļām, lai dotos tūkstošiem jūdžu ceļojumā... (Nu bet atnāk taču otrs vecāks, vai tas nebaro? - LL ) Mazulis tik ļoti izmainās/pieaug, ka atgriežoties, vecāks to atpazīst ne pēc izskata, bet pēc balss un smaržas...

Albatrosses feed their young a thick concentrated oil that they extract from their prey and regurgitate in the mouths of their young. Describing feeding time at a nesting site in New Zealand, Safina wrote: “When parents arrived...the chicks excitedly position their bills crosswise, where the adult squirts a stream of oil as if filling a tank. An adult may spend 5 minutes ashore feeding its youngsters meal that's a third of the chick's body weight, then leave again for another trek of several weeks and thousands of miles. Between meals the chick converts oil into bone, flesh, and feathers. The chick grows so much between visits that adults recognize them not by sight, but by voice and scent."

Paldies,lianaliesma,par vecāku maiņas reportāžu :)un jauno informāciju . Vakar jau sāku nervozēt,jo neizdevās noķert kaut vienu barošanu.Tad domāju,ka varbūt mammītei vairs nav ko barot ,viņa vairākas reizes stāvēja,bet nepiedāvāja bērnam.Tagad atkal viss kārtībā

"If you have been watching and seen the webcam chick when it is fed you will see that albatross feed their chick by regurgitation.
The photo is not the web cam chick and you will notice a couple of things there with this chick and photo: a) a bulging stomach, a large wet part of the down on the chick and a blue bucket.
The bulging stomach is evident of a very large meal it has received. The wet patch all over its belly is due to the chick sitting in a wet mass of partly digested fish and squid. The top of the chick is dry. What has happened is the chick has begged for food from its parent and has received enough food to the point where it can't take in any more. At that point the chick has simple moved away from the parent's mouth. The parent has continued to regurgitate and made a mess of the nest that the chick has then sat in. You can imagine the number of flies buzzing around with that smell and the fly strike risk.
This doesn't happen very often, the adults usually have great control of the amount of food they bring back up from their stomachs to regurgitate.
The blue bucket ? It was sponge bath time for that chick"
