Liz, I had watched a great part of it, but couldn't look til the end. It's so awful, direful and extremely sad ...![]()
The comments of Carsten Rohde sounded desperate and discouraging. I can't imagine that things have changed meanwhile. Unfortunately on Carstens blog are no informations about the current situation in Israel.
But I suppose if he has had success with his efforts for the improvement of the situation, he would have noted this important aim in his blog.
Hello Michi
You are right, it is extremely sad !When I hear of the storks being in Israel I always have a very uneasy feeling. (Not only black and white storks are resting here, but also Ospreys, Herons, Eagles, Owls and a lot of other birds, more than 40 species)
Your supposition I share completely. I would almost say: I know, that there haven't been yet any considerable improvements.
For that you must know, that I have done some translations for Carsten in winter 2012/13. He has written about his research in Israel for an international bird magazine.
I don't know if I'm allowed to tell about it here, but I think it is all right when I tell about some facts of his discouraging summary:
These problems (fatal accidents mainly inside the fishponds but also with the power lines and power poles) are known to local authorities
as well as to organizations like the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel since 25 years !!!
Regardless of that only very limited progress has been achieved in the last ten years. (Status as of winter 2012/13)
Me neither, I can't imagine that things have been changed in the following last two years.
Sorry, but that is the sad reality.![]()
As far as I know, Carsten hasn't been again to Israel since autumn 2012,
but I will write to him and ask if he knows some pleasing news.
Maybe it might last long time until he will answer because he is always very busy.
Perhaps he even will write directly to this forum/topic.
