At this morning's weigh in the Plateau chick was 780g on day 11 which is a little down from yesterday. WYL was already on his way back from foraging north of Pukekura and feeds his chick soon after the changeover.

WYL and BOK and Plateau chick at Plateau nest.
The chick hatched on the 22nd of January 2026 and is now 12 days old (3 Feb)
The chick has hatched, after the hatching egg spent 4 days in the incubator to protect the vulnerable hatchling from fly strike the Plateau chick hatched weighing 288g. For reference, this is a little less than a soda can and this chick is one of the smaller Royalcam chicks to hatch.
We are now moving to weekly weighs at this nest on a Tuesday. Occasionally a weight may also be taken on other days.

This morning’s weigh was at 9.33am was 940g. This is above average for male and female chicks who are 12 days old, showing a well-provisioned chick.
You will be able to follow the chick’s growth here: https://www.doc.govt.nz/nature/native-a ... ks-weight/
Changeovers at the nest have been frequent during the past week with no parent being on the nest for more than 3 days currently.
GPS tracking of BOK (left) and WYL (right) over the last 30 days show BOK has been taking shorter foraging trips closer to home than WYL. As the chick gets bigger longer trips will need to be taken as the parents need to provide enough food for a growing chick and themselves.
