Pirmās ziņas no Ranger Judy
An first report for the day October 25: an early start to the day again and a duet. Then after a visit to another branch, SE33 took flight at 6:19 – fledged – and flew off strongly. We were not sure where it headed though. At 7:12 Lady flew to the nest with a gull chick. SE33 was slow to start eating, but finally ate well, with Lady feeding for a while and eating herself. Ground watcher Jen then was looking along the river area and closer to the forest watching for sounds or sights of SE33. Later in the early afternoon we heard magpie calls and located SE33 safe in a low bush – not far from the nest. Hopefully the eagles will be able to find it and bring food – and it may be able to fly up higher and closer to the nest. We are just watching and listening -


Pirmā reportāža par dienu 25. oktobris: atkal agrs dienas sākums un duets. Pēc tam pēc citas filiāles apmeklējuma SE33 pacēlās lidojumā plkst. 6:19 – aizlidoja – un spēcīgi aizlidoja. Tomēr mēs nebijām pārliecināti, kur tas virzās. 7:12 Dāma ar kaijas cāli aizlidoja uz ligzdu. SE34 lēni sāka ēst, bet beidzot labi paēda, lēdija kādu laiku baroja un pati ēda. October 25: continued. Late afternoon, Lady brought a gull chick in and SE34 ate well-after a while- now alone on the nest. Swoopers still bothering them. Both Eagles were then seen down on the river, after Lady left the feeding. But more pre later, with a fish brought by Dad, followed by Lady to take over. 34 ate well. SE33 could be heard nearby and seemed to have moved from where it was spotted earlier.

25. oktobris: turpinājums. Vēlā pēcpusdienā lēdija ieveda kaijas cāli, un SE34 pēc kāda laika labi paēda — tagad vienatnē ligzdā. Swoopers joprojām traucē viņiem. Pēc tam, kad lēdija pameta barošanu, abi ērgļi tika manīti lejā upē. Bet vairāk pirms vēlāk, ar zivi, ko atnesa tētis, kam sekoja dāma, lai pārņemtu. 34 labi paēda. Tuvumā bija dzirdams SE33, un šķita, ka tas ir pārvietojies no vietas, kur tas tika pamanīts agrāk.

October 26: SE34 slept alone, lying in the nest most of the night. Adults were off early and swoopers were around early as well. Eagles were seen down on the river in the sun at 7:30. SE34 spent the morning on the nest, with the occasional swooper. SE34 is squonking loudly when swooped. Mid-afternoon – no sightings of SE33 and 34 still resting – no prey delivered yet today though adults were reported down on the river. Around 3pm 34 went right up PB, flapping and back again. Still waiting for a feed. Late in the afternoon, our team spotted SE33 across the river, in the mangroves – heard calling and being swooped. Then SE33 was seen flying strongly off away from the river. However, it returned to the mangroves behind river roost and was heard calling. This is the first time we have observed this fledging behaviour. The parents were seen nearby earlier, one with an eel. Early evening at 6pm, SE34 is on the nest, waiting and SE33 is, we think, in the mangroves down on the river. More later if there is any more news.

26. oktobris: SE34 gulēja viens, lielāko nakts daļu guļot ligzdā. Pieaugušie devās prom agri, un swoopers arī bija agri. Ērgļi tika manīti lejā uz upes saulē pulksten 7:30. SE34 rītu pavadīja uz ligzdas. SE34 skaļi čīkst, kad tam uzbrūk. Pēcpusdienas vidū — SE33 un 34 vēl nav novēroti, bet šodien vēl nav nogādāts laupījums, lai gan upē tika ziņots par pieaugušajiem. Ap pulksten 15:00 34 pacēlās tieši uz augšu PB, plivinot un atpakaļ. Joprojām gaida vecākus ar ēdamo. Vēlā pēcpusdienā mūsu komanda pamanīja SE33 pāri upei, mangrovju audzēs – dzirdēja saucienu un spārnu. Pēc tam SE33 tika redzēts spēcīgi lidojam prom no upes. Tomēr tas atgriezās mangrovju audzēs aiz upes riesta un tika dzirdēts saucam. Šī ir pirmā reize, kad mēs novērojam šādu uzvedību. Vecāki jau agrāk manīti tuvumā, viens ar zuti. Agrā vakarā pulksten 18:00 SE34 atrodas uz ligzdas, gaida, un SE33, mūsuprāt, atrodas mangrovju audzēs lejā pie upes. Vairāk vēlāk, ja būs vēl kādi jaunumi.

Labs rīts! Diena šodien skaista + 27 grādi. Lietus nebūs. Nesagaidījis vecākus ar brokastīm, kurru apbožots , se 34 spiests izlidot 9.59 . Tagad atliek satikt vēcākus un brāli/māsu

October 27: 34 slept on front rail of nest overnight – were the parents nearby? Early morning swoopers were about and swooping 34 as it moved a little about the nest branches. 34 moved up higher, then back to the nest again. A currawong came close and clipped 34. The eaglet flew off then strongly - flying out and up. So SE34 fledged today around 10am at 81 days from hatching. Then out of sight. Ground crew reported adults down on the river and SE33 possibly out of sight in the mangroves. At 1:20, no prey had been brought back to the now empty nest. Around 1:30 one fledgling was seen flying over Ermington Bay, landing on the power tower, then when flushed took off over Wentworth Point and the residential areas – and away. Parents were circling overhead. Later SE33 was seen flying back towards the general forest area again. As well an eaglet was reported earlier on the ground in the area near the nest – SE34 – in the restricted access area. After 5pm, adults were seen circling high overhead. Several sightings, so SE33 seems to be moving about. Unsure of where SE34 is at end of day. Will the adults return to the nest area? Will either fledgling?

27. oktobris: 34 nakti gulēja uz ligzdas priekšējās sliedes – vai vecāki bija tuvumā? Agrā rīta swoopers bija aptuveni un swioping 34, jo tas nedaudz pārvietojās pa ligzdas zariem. 34 pacēlās augstāk, tad atkal atpakaļ uz ligzdu. Kurravons pienāca tuvu un uzbruka 34. Ērgļa mazulis aizlidoja un pēc tam spēcīgi lidoja ārā un uz augšu. Tātad SE34 lidoja šodien ap pulksten 10:00 81 dienu pēc izšķilšanās. Tad prom no redzesloka. Sauszemes apkalpe ziņoja par pieaugušajiem upē un SE33, kas, iespējams, nav redzami mangrovju audzēs. 13:20 neviens laupījums vairs nebija atvests uz tagad tukšo ligzdu. Ap pulksten 13:30 viens mazulis tika novērots pārlidojam pāri Ermingtonas līcim, nolaižoties uz elektrības torņa, bet pēc tam, kad tas bija noskalots, pacēlās virs Ventvortas punkta un dzīvojamiem rajoniem – un prom. Vecāki riņķoja virs galvas. Vēlāk SE33 atkal tika manīts lidojam atpakaļ uz vispārējo meža zonu. Kā arī iepriekš ziņots par ērgļa mazuli uz zemes teritorijā pie ligzdas – SE34 – ierobežotas pieejamības zonā. Pēc pulksten 17:00 pieaugušie tika manīti riņķojam augstu virs galvas. Vairāki novērojumi, tāpēc šķiet, ka SE33 kustas. Neesat pārliecināts, kur SE34 atrodas dienas beigās. Vai pieaugušie atgriezīsies ligzdas zonā?

Cik brīnišķīgu sezonu mēs esam pieredzējuši šogad. Kāda privilēģija! 2 brīnišķīgi, veselīgi nepilngadīgie WBSE ir devušies plašajā pasaulē, kā vajadzētu. Papiņš un Lēdija turpinās nodrošināt SE33 un SE34. Cerams, ka mazuļi kādu laiku paliks apgabalā, lai zemes novērotājiem būtu iespēja vērot ziņot par to. Lai gan skatītājiem šis ir skumjš laiks, mums visiem jābūt laimīgiem par 100% panākumiem šogad. Šīs ir tikai viņu dzīves 1. posma beigas.
Sidneja ir grūta vieta jaunajam ērglim.
Nav viegli apiet apdraudējumus, gan spārnotus, gan citus, un mēs varam tikai mēģināt tiem sekot līdzi, kad vien iespējams.

October 28: an empty nest but a couple of sightings during the day. During the morning, we think one eaglet was heard in the mangroves. Parents circling overhead. Lady was seen with a fish, circling over the whole area. We were listening for alarm calls from the swooping currawongs and ravens, which alert us to where an eaglet might be. Early afternoon we spotted an eaglet in a casurina by Wharf Pond – just over our heads, with a couple of currawongs in attendance. After a while it flew off strongly out of sight. Later both eagles were reported with prey over the river, though both fed themselves and when seen again had no catch. Just after 3pm I saw one adult circling over the Armory area. One eaglet spotted again in the area – it’s hide and seek . We watched as the eaglet, we thing SE34, hoped along a wire fence-line, with ravens pulling and poking it. It finally flew off along the pathway, landing clumsily in a tree. The swoopers found it again, both currawongs and magpies. By standing still, the swoopers gradually left and it was resting. We think it flew off again late. A long day for 2 eaglets out in the world.

28. oktobris: tukša ligzda, bet dienas laikā pāris novērojumi. No rīta, domājam, mangrovju audzēs bija dzirdēts viens ērgļa mazulis. Vecāki riņķo virs galvas. Dāma tika manīta ar zivi, kas riņķoja pa visu apkārtni. Mēs klausījāmies trauksmes zvanus no sviedošiem ķeburiem un kraukļiem, kas brīdina mūs par to, kur varētu atrasties ērgļa mazulis. Agrā pēcpusdienā mēs pamanījām ērgļa mazuli kazurīnā pie Wharf Pond — tieši virs mūsu galvām, un tajā piedalījās pāris kurravonu. Pēc kāda laika tas stipri aizlidoja no redzesloka. Vēlāk tika ziņots, ka abi ērgļi atraduši medījumu pār upi, lai gan abi barojās paši un, kad tie atkal redzēti, viņiem nebija nozvejas. Tieši pēc pulksten 15:00 es redzēju vienu pieaugušo riņķojam virs Armory rajona. Apkārtnē atkal pamanīts viens ērglis – tas ir paslēpies. Mēs skatījāmies, kā ērglis, mēs domājām SE34, cerējām gar stiepļu žoga līniju, kur kraukļi to velk un bakstīja. Beidzot tas aizlidoja pa celiņu, neveikli ielidojot kokā. Swoopers to atkal atrada, gan currawongs, gan magpis. Stāvot uz vietas, swoopers pamazām aizgāja un tā atpūtās. Mēs domājam, ka tas atkal aizlidoja. Gara diena 2 ērgļiem pasaulē.

The reward is to see the fledglings safe and growing stronger. An even greater privilege is to be held in the curious gaze of such a magnificent bird.

Thankfully they negotiated one of the fences along the Reserve without injury and managed to find enough room to spread those huge wings. It takes quite a runway for them to launch and gain altitude but they flew up into a Casuarina tree.
Not the most elegant landing but about 5m off the ground at least and had enough time and space to gather strength for the next move.

October 29: Eagles were seen on the river around 7:30 –then shortly after on the mangroves – one with a fish. While doing surveys in the wetlands nearby between 7am and 8:30, no sign of either eaglet. Around 8:15 an eaglet was seen flying across the Armory grassland, being chased by the usual swoopers. It was seen on top of one of the old Navy – era mounds, then it flew off again. One was reported by a member of the public along one of the pathways, but was gone when we investigated. We think this is SE34 and it is flying strongly and moving about. There were more sightings during the day and one was seen from the ferry flying along the river. Early evening Dad was seen with a bird, taking it to river roost. Neither eagle returned to the nest today. At dusk adults were at river roost. Picture is from a sighting yesterday.

29. oktobris: Ērgļi tika manīti uz upes ap pulksten 7:30 – pēc tam neilgi pēc mangrovju audzēm – viens ar zivi. Veicot apsekojumus tuvumā esošajos mitrājos no pulksten 7:00 līdz 8:30, nevienam no ērgļiem nebija nekādu pazīmju. Ap pulksten 8:15 pa Armory zālāju tika manīts lidojam ērgļu mazulis, kuru dzenā parastie sweopers. Tas bija redzams virsū vienam no vecajiem Jūras spēku – laikmeta pilskalniem, tad atkal aizlidoja. Par vienu ziņoja kāds sabiedrības loceklis vienā no ceļiem, taču tas pazuda, kad mēs izmeklējām. Mēs domājam, ka tas ir SE34, un tas spēcīgi lido un kustas. Dienas laikā bija vairāk novērojumu, un viens bija redzams no prāmja, kas lidoja pa upi. Agrā vakarā tētis tika redzēts ar putnu, kas veda to uz upi. Neviens ērglis šodien neatgriezās ligzdā. Krēslas laikā pieaugušie atradās upē. Bilde ir no vakardienas novērojuma.

October 30: Adults were seen down on the river just before 7am, and were heard duetting. During the day they have been seen with prey, circling over the wetlands and further. At times Lady was circling with a fish. Both Lady and Dad landed on the Parade Ground (between the DC and the river) – then off again. Then late afternoon – all were seen in the Nature Reserve wetlands, between the river and the nest. First one eaglet, then the other was spotted in the saltmarsh or mudflats. One adult on the ground as well, the other nearby. It is probable that at least one has had a feed. A relief to confirm that the adults have found the young ones and that all are safe. Later both were seen in a tree and one of the parents flew by with a fish. Where will they explore tomorrow?

30. oktobris: Pieaugušie tika manīti lejā upē īsi pirms pulksten 7:00 un tika dzirdēti duetam. Dienas laikā tie ir redzēti ar laupījumu, riņķojot virs mitrājiem un tālāk. Reizēm lēdija riņķoja ar zivi. Gan lēdija, gan tētis nolaidās parādes laukumā (starp DC un upi) un pēc tam atkal izgāja. Tad vēlā pēcpusdienā – visi bija redzami dabas lieguma mitrājos, starp upi un ligzdu. Vispirms viens ērglis, pēc tam otrs tika pamanīts sāls purvā vai dubļu līdzenumos. Viens pieaugušais arī uz zemes, otrs blakus. Visticamāk, ka vismaz vienam ir bijusi barība. Atvieglojums, lai apstiprinātu, ka pieaugušie ir atraduši mazuļus un ka visi ir drošībā. Vēlāk abi redzēti kokā un viens no vecākiem aizlidojis ar zivi. Kur viņi rīt pētīs?

October 31: last evening, both eaglets were seen together in the wetlands. Early morning, both parents were seen down on River Roost. Around 7:30 ravens and currawongs were heard in the wetlands – maybe fledglings were still there? Then squonking was heard as well. Shortly after both were spotted in a tree, hunched down to avoid the swoopers. Early afternoon at 2:20, Dad was circling overhead and shortly after one youngster was airborne from the wetlands, circling then headed towards the river. One eagle was at the river roost at 3pm, and a fledgling possibly behind in the mangroves. Later one was seen opposite River Roost. No eagles have returned to the nest. 5pm, adult was circling .over Mangrove Island with a fish- juvenile heard from behind the island. Adult finally began eating the fish itself. Watcher unable to see if any juvenile was there. One of the juveniles was seen in the river, though fortunately managed to lift off again – attempting to catch a fish maybe? Late afternoon, rain started - hopefully all sheltered somewhere for the night and watchers thought both were over the river.

31. oktobris: pagājušajā vakarā mitrājos kopā redzēti abi ērgļu mazuļi. Agrā rītā abi vecāki tika redzēti Roostas upē. Ap 7:30 mitrājos bija dzirdami kraukļi – varbūt tur vēl bija mazuļi? Tad atskanēja arī čīkstēšana. Neilgi pēc tam abi tika pamanīti kokā, saliekušies, lai izvairītos no sweopers. Agrā pēcpusdienā pulksten 14:20 tētis riņķoja virs galvas un neilgi pēc tam, kad viens jaunietis bija izlidojis no mitrājiem, riņķojot, tad devās upes virzienā. Viens ērglis atradās upes apmešanās vietā pulksten 15:00, un jaundzimušais, iespējams, atradās mangrovju audzēs. Vēlāk viens tika redzēts pretī River Roost. Neviens ērglis ligzdā nav atgriezies. 17:00 pieaugušais riņķoja pār Mangrovju salu ar zivju mazuli, ko dzirdēja aiz salas. Pieaugušais beidzot sāka ēst zivis. Vērotājs nevarēja redzēt, vai tur nav kāds nepilngadīgais. Viens no mazuļiem tika manīts upē, lai gan, par laimi, atkal izdevās pacelties – varbūt mēģinājums noķert zivi? Vēlā pēcpusdienā sākās lietus - cerams, ka visi kaut kur patvērās uz nakti, un novērotāji domāja, ka abi ir pāri upei.

Update from yesterday, 31st October;
Possible pics of both juvies, SE33* likely flying high and strong slightly towards nest then looped back as if to cross the river before passing behind the treeline and out of view at 13:44pm.
About an hour later after seeing swoopers and hearing squonks in the edge of the wetland opposite River Roost as if movement there and SE34* flew out and over the river...then turned sharply before ditching into the water! It looked like an attempted landing rather than a crash or failed hunt but we'll never know.
What I do know is that they are pushing the limits of my rescue preparedness - perhaps it was a Halloween trick played on me?
I also observed just how powerful even a juvenile Sea Eagle can be.
After 6-7minutes of me frantically running along the rocks and getting in contact with others to figure out what on earth we might do about an eaglet adrift in the river, they raised their wings and launched themselves out of the water with strong wing beats, getting airborne and flying across the bay.
Lady and Dad as always are being very vigilant and constantly patrolling their territory and keeping an eye on things.
*these are guesses based on what we've observed but it's very difficult to tell if we are seeing the same eaglet several times or both juvies. SE33 is more confident and fledged first while SE34 seems to follow and be slightly less independent hence the suspicion that SE33 tends to fly first and SE34 follows.

Iespējamās bildes ar abām juvām, SE33*, iespējams, lido augstu un spēcīgu nedaudz ligzdas virzienā, pēc tam cilpoja atpakaļ, it kā šķērsotu upi, pirms dodoties aiz koka un skatā 13:44.
Apmēram stundu vēlāk pēc tam, kad redzēju slapjus un dzirdēju skvjus mitrāja malā pretī River Roost, it kā kustība turp un SE34* izlidotu ārā un pāri upei... tad asi pagriezās pirms grāvēšanas ūdenī! Izskatījās pēc nolaišanās mēģinājuma, nevis avārijas vai neveiksmīgas medības, bet mēs to nekad neuzzināsim.
Tas, ko es zinu, ir tas, ka viņi virza manas glābšanas gatavības robežas - varbūt tas bija Helovīna triks, kas man tika spēlēts?
Es arī novēroju, cik spēcīgs var būt pat Jūras ērglis mazgadīgs.
Pēc 6-7minūtēm es draiski skrienu gar klintīm un sazinos ar citiem, lai saprastu, ko mēs uz zemes varētu darīt ar ērgli, kas adriftu upē, viņi pacēla spārnus un palaida sevi ārā no ūdens ar spēcīgiem spārnu ritmiem, gaisā un lidoja pāri līcim.
Dāma un tētis kā vienmēr ir ļoti modri un nepārtraukti patrulē savu teritoriju un seko līdzi lietām.
*šie ir minējumi, kas balstīti uz to, ko esam novērojuši, bet ir ļoti grūti pateikt, vai mēs redzam vienu un to pašu ērglīti vairākas reizes vai abus jaunumus. SE33 ir pārliecinātāks un aizbēg pirmais, kamēr SE34 šķiet, seko un ir nedaudz mazāk neatkarīgs, tāpēc rodas aizdomas, ka SE33 mēdz lidot pirmais un SE34 seko.
