Colony Update:
- Over 100 adult albatross seen on the headland so far this season.
- 2 eggs laid - only one of these is still viable. The couple with the viable egg are first time breeders (fingers crossed for them).
- Moana's mum was sighted for the first time this season today. Moana of course being the first 'RoyalCam' chick.
A critical and exciting time of the year for the albatross colony here at Taiaroa Head. The visitors on our guided tours have been treated to some impressive views the last few weeks including mating, courtship displays, nest building and some impressive aerial displays. Some Orcas were even sighted not far off the headland this afternoon.
We are due some wild weather the next week or so (which the albatross love) and the staff are all looking forward to being able to show our visitors the albatross in action! Come and join us! Make sure you book - we are getting busier and busier
