Mēs nevēlamies nodrošināt papildbarošanu vietās (vēja elektrostacijās), no kurām viņām vajadzētu turēties pa gabalu.Kerli and Kergu have found most of their catch this year in the wind farm area - in fact, most of the food brought to the nest comes from there. Kerli has visited the supplemental feeding sites fewer than 10 times, and Kergu hasn't visited them at all. We don't want to provide supplemental feeding in areas (wind farms) that they should be staying away from.
On the other hand, NURME has also found these fishing spots, traveling 25 km from her nest to visit them. Recently, an OTTER has started visiting these fish baskets as well. Nurme receives supplemental feeding too, with three fish baskets near her nest, but the fish intended for Kergu is also being eaten. Nurme has two chicks growing in the nest who could soon be taking their first test flights.
Mātītes klātbūtne un vecāku darba dalīšana:Female Attendance and Parental Division of Labour:
A major topic in the YouTube chat was the prolonged absence of the female, Kerli, who has rarely been seen at the nest and, as several viewers remarked, "only visits like a guest". The male, Kergu, has been taking full responsibility for feeding the chick, bringing food twice a day.
Feeding Frequency vs. Chick Development:
Another point of discussion was whether two feeds a day are sufficient for a single chick. More experienced observers (including MarikaSolo and LizNm) rightly pointed out that, at this stage of development, two substantial meals of fish and frogs per day are entirely adequate for a lone chick to thrive.
