The Royalcam nest.
Since hatching at 286g on the 28th of January, the Royalcam chick at Signal Station Flat has grown to 4.7 kg on day 56 (Tuesday 25th of March). This is a 0.6 kg increase on last week’s weight. Today’s weight is 600g above average for a female.

The youngest toroa to return to Pukekura have been 3 going on for 4 years of age. It takes a few years of socialising with other adolescents (and potentially any bereaved breeders who may be around) before they choose a mate. Breeding typically begins after 8 years of age.
For example,
Tūmanako* fledged in 2017, returned at the end of 2021 and is just now ‘keeping company’ (i.e. serious about breeding next season).

Moana, the first Royalcam chick returned in 2023 although has not been sighted this season.
The one other Royalcam chick to return is Amīria from the 2018 season, she returned in December 2024 and is banded A43.
