The wind is very strong now but is forecasted to drop again this evening. Albatross need the wind to survive but it can be a struggle at times. Quarry Track is one of the more exposed locations in the headland and feels the full force of the south-westerly.

All the chicks are fine this morning. I wouldn't say that they have been enjoying +70 knot wo d but they are well adapted to cope with it. At 7 - 9 kg they have a very low center of gravity which keeps them on the ground.

Quarry Track chick is now 118 days of age. The rate of growth slows down at the four-month mark as more energy is going into growing wings and feathers.
The weight was 6.3 kg today the weight was low (and down on last week's 6.9 kg so the Quarry Track chick was supplementary fed at 12.10 pm.

For the followers of BK and Tūmanako, BK's current chick is the heaviest today and the first to break the +10kg mark this season at a chonky 10.2kg.
RLW is BK's new partner and they now nest quite far down the hill.

Mum, YRK, came in to feed Quarry Track chick at 9.25am ahead of Tuesday weigh day.
Quarry Track chick is now 125 days old and weighed 6.9 kg this morning at 10.26am. This is 600g up on last week and back at the weight she had been on the 17th May. Ideally, she could be a little heavier but was not supplementary fed today due to having just had a good feed from YRK.
