Royal albatross rely on healthy habitats at sea and on land. But these habitats are under pressure from climate change, pollution, especially plastic waste and human activities.
This year's theme invites you to reflect on the place’s albatross call home and the role we all play in protecting them. Your chosen name could draw on ideas of renewal, resilience, guardianship, or the natural world.
By taking part, you're helping raise awareness of the importance of restoring and caring for these habitats so future generations of albatross can thrive.

Average weight for a male of this age is 8.3kg. Last week he was 9.2kg so above the current average. No weight today as his weight has been very good. Plateau chick will be weighed next week on Tuesday (26 May).

The chick has been fed once by BOK since the last update. Longer trips are sometimes taken as the parents need to provide enough food for a growing chick and themselves.
WYL’s GPS update: Over the last 7 days WYL has not been back to the headland. The previous week he came in 5 times (2 of those within a twelve-hour period) and had been foraging much closer to the colony than on recent trips. He has headed further north up to the Kaikoura coast and Cook Strait again.
BOK’s GPS update: over the last week BOK has returned to the headland once. Unlike recent weeks she has travelled further north off the Canterbury coast towards the Chatham Rise. She now seems to be making steady progress in the direction of Pukekura.
