From Dr. Bast, at CROW Clinic: "Unfortunately, there is no conclusive cause of death that could be determined. There had been some decomposition of the tissues, but findings included a few enlarged organs (non-specific finding), coccidia (intestinal parasite) but there were no tissue changes in the GI tract related to this parasitism, and the HPAI test was negative."
We wish more specifics relating to the cause of death were available however necropsies don't always give conclusive answers, but thankfully it's not Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI)!
In birds of prey generally only 50% of offspring survive their first year, and sadly, this chick failed to thrive... Currently, the other 2 chicks are doing great, one of them has even started self-feeding!
