CROW - Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Inc. has confirmed the bald eagle taken in for injuries yesterday is missing a talon on its left foot but cannot 100% confirm yet it is indeed our Ozzie.
The bald eagle is undergoing testing and we are confident through CROW's dedicated staff & resources, will receive the care it needs for recovery.
We hope to have a better update on the injuries & recovery time this afternoon.
We appreciate everyone's concern for the eagle and ask you respect CROW and the FWC's time and do not contact them directly. We will provide updates on the eagle when they are available here on the page and in chat.

Update from our friends at CROW - Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Inc. 5:27pm Mar. 18: It is extremely likely that the bald eagle brought in yesterday is Ozzie due to the photographs and description sent to us from the SFEC. It has been confirmed that the bald eagle does have a fractured clavicle and will need a few weeks of rehabilitation. CROW appreciates the support from our SWFEC community and will provide further updates tomorrow on Ozzie's condition.

Es arī šādu info neesmu redzējusi, liekas, ka Ozijs vienkārši kādu dienu neatlidoja uz ligzdu.... un kaut kur netālu ir atrasts savainotais ērglis ar lauztu atslēgas kaulu. Pēc izdziedināšanas, kad viņu atlaidīs, tad droši vien būs skaidrāks, redzot, uz kurieni tas dodas... Cerams, ka Herieta mazuli pabaros, tas jau ir samērā liels...

Haunting Verses From Harriet; First Time To The Porch ~ 3-19-2015
E6 is 82 days old. Harriet make what sounded like crying sounds early this morning that I have never ever heard from her before… in all three years of watching/documenting this nest. It is haunting, but I think it certainly demonstrates that eagles do go through a grieving process.
E6 hops to the porch for the first time early this morning.

FORT MYERS, Fla.- WINK News was there as Florida Fish and Wildlife officials took away an injured bald eagle.
The eagle was found near the train tracks at Palm Beach Boulevard and Van Buren Street.
People showed up to help the injured eagle after finding it dazed on the ground.
FWC is taking the eagle to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) on Sanibel to have it checked out.

While we all remain positive and hope for Ozzie's return, we have had the rare and unique opportunity to observe Harriet & E6 adapt to the assumed loss of Ozzie.
Since March 21, a male eagle (nicknamed FV/Frequent Visitor) has been attempting to establish himself in Harriet's territory.
While courtship usually begins in the fall, single eagles looking for a mate may be seen courting earlier. These behaviors begin with standoffs; progressing to perching in the same tree and eventually side by side. While a "permanent" bond isn't generally formed until the pair raise their first clutch or young, all the behaviors seen are part of the pair bonding, not mating.
Only time will tell what lies ahead for Ozzie, Harriet & this family but it has been amazing to witness nature at its finest.

E6 is 118 days old. It was reported that E6 got the squirrel out of a tree.

The third time's a charm! E6 flew and perched in the west pasture area, same spot, three times this am. I hoped E6 was hunting! Sure enough, E6 brought home a squirrel, captured out of a tree in the west pasture. What an accomplishment for this 118 day old young eagle. Way to go, E6!!!

It is said on the WINK News that Ozzie's return to the wild would happen within a month. So his rehabilitation has taken more time than was estimated in the beginning (6 weeks) - the CROW person says that because of Ozzie's high age the recovering time is longer. Anyway they say that they have numerous cases like Ozzie - so it gives me hope that he will recover and be released in the wild again.
Ozzie was found injured nearby a railway - he can have crashed with a train, car or a wall perhaps when chasing a prey - no-one knows what happened. His clavicle was broken. He had a bandage on his wing for weeks and he got physical training for his wing every three days until now, but I understand that the bandage has been removed now and he has been moved to a bigger cage where he can freely strengthen his muscles himself. He has got up in weight which means that he never lost his appetite. Many fish stores have happily donated fish heads to the clinic during Ozzie's being there. Ozzie is maybe the most famous bald eagle at least in Florida today - the media has followed his rehabilitation intensively.
Meanwhile Ozzie's offspring, E6, has been training eagle life with his mother Harriet - both have done it excellently together and E6 has even brought own prey to the nest so far and chased away an intruding eagle from stealing his food. E6 was just about to fledge when Ozzie got injured. It is likely that E6 flies out from the home nest before Ozzie gets home - E6 was last seen in the area yesterday. But I hope Ozzie and Harriet get a future together again next breeding season next autumn.

After delivering a fish at 2pm on March 17, 2015, Ozzie did not return to the nest site. Later that afternoon an eagle was spotted on the ground across the river and after a call to the proper authorities the eagle was rescued and taken to the Clinic for Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Inc. (CROW) in Sanibel, Florida. At CROW, X-rays revealed a broken left clavicle, which corresponds to the human collarbone, and a broken left coracoid bone, which is part of the shoulder assembly and extremely important for flight.
E6 has come home!!! After not being seen since yesterday around 1:00PM, E6 flew into the nest around 1:04 PM today.
