Friends of the Redding Eagles-FORE
Update on our Redding Eagles & Eaglecam for Friday 1/6/23:
We are still experiencing some issues with our Eaglecam due to several extreme storms we've been having in Northern California. As soon as we get some clear skies & Sunshine to charge up the Batteries we will be back in business!
We also wanted to let everyone know that both Liberty & Guardian are doing fine! I was just down at the nest & Liberty was on the Christmas Tree & Guardian was in the nest when I arrived. Guardian flew out & landed in a tree near the nest & Liberty flew across & they both flew into the nest together.
They both spent some time in the nest before Guardian flew out & headed north upriver. Liberty stayed in the nest & was still in there when I left at 1:50 pm. Mike had just arrived as I was leaving so he will give us another report later today! Tagteam Ground Crew!
Sue also reported seeing a Juvenile Eagle upriver north of the nest earlier this morning. This is typical for offspring to return to their natal nesting territory at this time of year. Liberty & Guardian will tolerate them being close until they have eggs/eaglets in the nest & then they will become more protective & territorial & chase the youngsters away from the Nest Tree area.
The Nest & Nest Tree both look fine! The Sacramento River is much higher than it was & it looks pretty muddy but there was no flooding evident in the Nest Tree area. *(They are having more issues with flooding south of the Redding area.)
I will share some pics from my visit to the Nest, but just wanted to reassure everyone that our beloved Redding Eagles are both doing fine! It's hard to not worry about them but I always try to remember that eagles are made for this kind of weather! Eagles can endure much colder, wetter & snowier climates than Redding, California!
