ATTENTION, EAGLE FAMILY!
We are expecting a late spring storm on Friday.
What to expect: Snow showers mainly after midnight and in the morning. The day will be chilly, as temperatures will remain in upper 30’s. Per Bensweather, snow level could fall as low as 5,500 feet with this storm with an inch or two of snow possible. Fair and warmer weather will return over the weekend with daytime highs back up around 70-degrees by the middle of next week.
During inclement weather Jackie will spread her wings to cover and protect Spirit. This shielding behavior is often called Mombrella (or Dadbrella when Shadow does the same). If needed, Spirit may instinctively seek warmth and protection from the parents and will be moving underneath them.
Spirit has already developed most of its dorsal (upper side of the body) feathers and started developing ventral (underside) feathers. S/he is about 10 days older than any previous chicks observed during winter storms here at this nest. Considering the advanced stage of Spirit’s body feathers, our eagles may weather this storm side-by-side – it is a wait and see.
During this weather event, we will not be approving posts that will cause negative comments, unnecessary panic or speculations. Please remember that if these times make you too nervous it is ok to turn off the livestream.
