Martin delivers a live fish at 12:31 pm and another at 12:43 pm
Dulles Greenway Eagles
Rosa is visited by a Barred Owl. She was not happy!
Martin returns with a prey delivery, perhaps a rat at 8:21 am. Rosa doesn’t appear eager to go off on her break just yet but Martin patiently waits until she eventually flies off at 8:25 am. Martin hops over DG1 to get to the other side of the bowl and settles down with the little one. Nice maneuver Martin. He appears to be tracking something when he sends out vocals at 10:15 am and flies off at 10:17 am. Could it be Rosa? That appears to be the case. She lands in the nest just after Martin flies off and feeds DG1 some of the fresh prey that Martin delivered this morning. DG1 enjoys a good meal before Rosa settles over him/her on yet another very windy day at 10:25 am.
Rosa- Dad has a dark feather on his head whereas Mom has brown mixed in with the white and appears to have a light spot in the middle of the back of her head.
- Dad has a darker black ring around his eye and the iris is clear and Mom's iris is speckled.
- Mom is larger and broader in size.
There is also some difference in their behavior:
Right now Dad is bringing Mom food gifts, which is a part of their bonding. He will be the main food provider for the eaglets. She is calling, (actually, being very vocal), out to him for food deliveries. He is doing a good job bringing her a variety of foods. He is also the main nest builder, but Mom does her part too, to fix her nest just as she wants it & did bring in a couple of sticks today. Mom will be in her nest more, to incubate the eggs, and once hatched, feed and care for the eaglets, some dads will assist. She will call Dad in to relieve her when she needs a break. When Dad arrives, she will leave the nest then return.
