it seemed to try to put one egg down on the big branch but of course it fell down. to me this eagle didn't seem to be very clever at all. it seemed to be quite stupid to be honest.
edit: i thought more about this eagle... maybe it was not appropriate to call it stupid. rather it was inexperienced.

i have got the impression the WTEs are very opportunistic and generalists in the way they get food. they'll eat anything that is animal proteins, living or dead. so they'll steal other birds' eggs, too. i think that their skills are individual and develop during the lifetime of a bird. yesterday's eagle clearly wasn't a skillful egg robber.

a few years ago at the Saunja WTE nest we saw a skilled egg-thieving eagle. that spring a mallard tried to make its nest in the abandoned WTE nest. it had already laid nearly a dozen eggs there when one evening an eagle flew straight to the nest and ate all eggs one by one. it was very systematic and economic in its actions. after seeing yesterday's performance i would guess the t the other eagle who ate the mallard's eggs wasn't egg-thieving for the first time.

The adult WTE acted as “ruler” in the black stork nest, slowly, checking the surroundings, and quite foolishly...

Par igauņu komentāru: man arī likās, ka ērglis nemācēja ar olām "rīkoties". Man palika iespaids, ka ērglis bija pārsteigts, ka ola noripoja no zara, kad viņš to gribēja saturēt ar kājām.

Tā nevajadzētu būt, taču ir sanests daudz sūnu, tajās varētu būt ieraktas. Jāpagaida kamēr stārķis piecelsies.

11.26- 11.30 Piecēlās un veselas 4 minūtes staipīja kājas un grozīja olas. (es īpaši neiedziļinājos, jo citas lietas datorā paralēli darāmas)
